Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 'Chasing Yesterday'.

ALBUM REVIEWS

We like to scribble a few album reviews down in this section from time to time.

The man, the myth, the maverick. Probably (definitely!) the funniest man in rock and as vain as Liam Gallagher. I chat about Noel Gallagher's new album, from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, titled Chasing Yesterday, perhaps a nostalgic lust for the past, within a few days of release it has seemed to ruffle feathers amongst critics as they didn't expect anything particularly outlandish, but don't let me ways of the Gallagher fool you, his album is the last thing he'll take the piss with. Even since the days of mid-90s Oasis Noel's role hasn't ever been so much as heartfelt and more so emotionally vacant, after 20 years we still see more metaphorical workings and less relative tales of heartbreak and adventure.

My personal favourite track of the album is The Girl With X-Ray Eyes, it's simple and playful, I can see re-worked power ballads and future covers by Warpaint on the horizon, it's a song full of vision down the whimsical path of dream, empowering yet soft. When you listen to the popular debut The Ballad Of Mighty I, try and keep in mind this titan in the music world is 47 years old and pumping it out like he's 20, effortless and he probably wrote half of it in his sleep.

What does the future hold for Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds? Promise? Their peak? I expect many more great things before they hit the rock'n'roll zimmerframes and hit the great gig in the sky.

Warpaint 'Warpaint'.

By Jake Marley- @JDMarley_95

Warpaint's self titled follow up to the magnificent 'The Fool is a thing of pure beauty. Gracious vocalage from all corners set the tone, filling your ears with the manner of a swan cruising across a gentle lake. The albums teams a gentle pop approach with psychedelia elements and ferocious guitars.

The albums first real kicker is 'Hi' with it's pulsy bass and swaying drum beat with the synths flowing through in the background of tender voices.

The atmospheric yet pulsy snyth-style of 'Biggy' is a winner, plain and simple, just sway and let all your worries melt away. The album isn't as brash as The Fool was, as noted above the band have opted for a gentler approach on their 2nd record putting emphasis on soft vocals and the bopping basslines.

Theresa Wayman takes over much of the lead vocal duties on this record from Lead Singer Emily Kokal, but they team up throughout with some absolutely stunning harmonies and chorus sequences.

Other standouts are the loudest and fastest track on the record 'Disco//very' and the suttle yet crazily catchy 'Feeling Alright'. This album is quiet simply about as Chill as it gets.

This marks two fantastic records released by Warpaint and I'm sure there's many more to come.
